We have a finite time on this earth, for some it’s longer than others, and one of the things we don’t know is how long that is.

We waste so much of our time not pursuing meaningful goals and participating in meaningful activities. The phrase ‘eat, sleep, work, repeat’ comes to mind. We get caught in this trap and we begin to accept it, and then before we know it, our time is up.

To my knowledge, no one yet has been on their deathbed regretful that they didn’t manage to post more selfies on Instagram or spend more time on Facebook. When facing death, no one is considering what is going to happen in season six of their favourite Netflix show.

Use your time wisely, spend more time with the people that you love, visit the places you want to visit, have deep meaningful conversations with people, study the subjects that interest you, develop the mind, never stop learning.

Of course, it may not be realistic to quit work and just travel the globe all day every day, although many of us would like to. However, we can consider whether our occupation is aligned with the notion of maximising the usage of our most precious commodity – time, and we can certainly consider whether we are making the most of our time in the hours that we are not working.

No, it’s not wrong to relax, or to sometimes unwind by watching the game or a film after a busy day, but it’s all too easy to fall into the trap of making ‘sometimes’ into ‘all the time’ and before you know it, years have gone by and you are still the same person you were several years ago, you haven’t developed as a person and you haven’t experienced any of the wonders that life has to offer you.

This may seem a bit repetitive, but I’m hoping that any readers of this post will go away and take a moment to reflect on this post and consider how they spend their time, who they spend it with and whether they will consider it time well spent when their time on this earth comes to a close.
